    This     2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD truck features a new and more powerful engine. The V8 with 397 hp provides enough torque (765 lb.-ft) to give this truck 17,800 pounds of maximum  towing capability (fifth-wheel tow). It can tow up to 17,000 pounds with the factory installed hitch. This Chevy Duramax diesel has Hill Start Assist, auto grade breaking, trailer sway control, and Intelligent Brake Assist. The V8, with the Allison 1000 six-speed transmission powertrain, is more fuel efficient than previous models by an impressive 11%.That brings the mpg up to almost 19 on the highway when not loaded. It is also fully compatible with B20 biodiesel.

    Chevy Diesel Truck with a Duramax Diesel EngineThe 2011 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD model is in many ways similar to the 2500 HD. The 6.0L engine has 397 hp like the previous model and provides 765 lb.-ft of torque. The Silverado 3500 HD can tow up to 21,700 pounds; that is an increase of 3,900 pounds. Hill Start Assist, auto grade breaking, trailer sway control, as well as Intelligent Brake Assist, help to tow the heavier load safely. Like the 2500 HD, the 3500 HD is fully compatible with B20 biodiesel and still achieves the impressive 11% gain in fuel efficiency. Both models ranked best in class in many categories.


    These Chevy diesel trucks can tow in D or Drive position. Under heavy loads it may be necessary to shift to a lower gear. The same is advisable in hilly conditions while towing a heavy load. If the transmission shifts too often, it is best to switch to the Tow/Haul Mode. The Axle Ratio is 3.73 for both trucks, but the maximum trailer weight differs depending on the model. The GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) depends on each model as well. The exact limitations for each model can be found in the owner’s manual.
